Lose Worries, Not Sleep

Sleep is important for everyone, but it is almost impossible to sleep well when we are worried about something that happened today or will happen tomorrow.  Have a bedtime family meeting tonight to review things that happened during the day and what you expect to happen tomorrow.  If something is bothering someone, have a family brainstorm to try think of a solution together! Then you can talk about and get ready for the next day’s plans.  When you don’t have fears or worries on your mind, it will be easier for you all to get a good night’s sleep and be ready for a new day.

Talking about solutions for your worries will help your family learn more about each other and how to work together to solve problems.  Explaining why certain things cause you to worry will also help develop your description skills.

Schedule a bedtime family meeting every night.  When you build this into your routine at the same time each night, you can help each other feel better and build a better sleep schedule.  Your body will also start to recognize this meeting as a sign that it’s almost bed time, which will make it even easier to sleep.

Talk about what happens as you sleep, and your dreams. Have you ever noticed how your thoughts during the day sometimes end up in your dreams? Or how some dreams seem to have no connection to your life? Learn more about dreaming at Have You Ever Had Crazy Dreams?

When my grandson got hurt while skateboarding, we had long nights with him being in pain. I would sit with him and rub his leg. He would be so happy and tell me he can go to sleep now without worries because he knows I will be there for him.

It's comforting to know we have our family when we need them! What kind of things do you like to talk about with your grandson while he's falling asleep?
