We are a Restaurant!

Have you ever heard someone say, "This kitchen isn’t a restaurant?" Imagine if it were. What would you call it? What kind of food would you serve? When would your restaurant be open? The next time you eat a meal that would be served in your family's restaurant, take a picture of it and discuss why it would be perfect for your kitchen restaurant.

Creating an imaginary restaurant is a great way to explain why you would make certain choices and use lots of details to describe your menu items.

Take your "restaurant" to the next level and give it a trial run! Plan a meal for your restaurant and create a menu. Set the table and decide who will do the different jobs in a restaurant. Is there a greeter? A server? Who is the chef? Maybe you can invite friends over to be the "customers." Have fun creating your very own family restaurant!

Does your planning have you wondering about a restaurant career? Check out How Do You Become a Chef? to see what it takes.

Great! We'd love to hear about your restaurant's menu! If you design a sign for the name, be sure to add a photo of it here!

I'm going to use an empty jar and put our family members' names on it with different favorites foods. The winning name will help to cook the food.

What a creative way to engage family members in cooking a family meal! We'd love to see this family activity in action--share a picture with the Family Time Machine if you can!
